Abhaneri is originally named Abha Nagri which means the City of Brightness. It was built by King Raja Chand of the Gurjar Kingdom in the 9TH century. It is popularly known for two monuments Chand Baori and Harshat Mata Temple. It is a legend that Goddess Harshat Mata shower brightness all over the village, so it is named Abha Nagri which is also mispronounced by local people as Abhaneri. This name highlights the major attraction of Abhaneri is the Chand Baori. The massive step to built stepwell to conserve rainwater is 20 m deep with 13 width levels, is considered deepest and largest stepwell in India. Marvelous carvings on the steps make it be an excellent piece of architecture. The stepwell symbolies as an amazing display of ancient Indian engineering. The geometric step pattern gives a fascinating and surprising experience to the tourists. Another interesting site to visit is the Harshat Mata Temple dedicated to Goddess Harshat Mata, the Goddess of Joy. The morning after breakfast visit the Amber to see the fabulous Amber Fort. Maharaja Mansingh was Akbar’s( Mughal Emperor ) most successful General, he started the construction of Amber Fort in the 17th century. In the early 17th century Amber was the seat of power before the City Palace was constructed in Jaipur. The fort is surrounded by fortified battlements and overlooks the Moat Lake. It spread over the Aravalli hills and sprawling crenulated walls lattice the surrounding area. An elephant (alternatively by jeeps on direct payment) will spare you the trouble of reaching up to the fortress. Once on top, stroll through the sprawling complex of courtyards and halls.
